Frequently asked questions

How do I add a new phrase?

Tap the + button within any category, type the phrase, and tap Save. Adding custom phrases requires Premium.

How does head tracking work?

Speech Assistant AAC uses your iPhone’s TrueDepth camera (the same camera used for Face ID) to track head movements, entirely on-device. Enable it in Settings ▸ Head Tracking, move your head to move the cursor, and hold still on a tile to select it (dwell selection).

What is Listening Mode?

The Listen tab hears questions spoken near the device, transcribes them on your iPhone, and suggests replies you can speak with one tap. Free accounts get a daily allowance of listening conversations; Premium is unlimited.

Can I use my own voice?

Yes, three ways: record a personal clip for any phrase (it plays instead of text-to-speech), use Apple’s Personal Voice (iOS 17+, created on-device), or generate lifelike Natural AI Voice audio for your phrases (Premium).

How do I add a custom image to a tile?

Edit any phrase and tap the symbol area to open the picker — choose from built-in AAC symbols, the OpenMoji library, or a photo from your library. Custom images are a Premium feature.

Will my phrases sync across devices?

Yes. Your board syncs securely across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Sign in with the same account on all devices; the Watch companion app shows your phrases for quick access on your wrist.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings ▸ [Your Name] ▸ Subscriptions on your iPhone, select Speech Assistant AAC, and tap Cancel Subscription. Subscriptions are managed entirely by the App Store.

How do I delete my account and data?

Open the app ▸ Settings ▸ User Account ▸ Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and all phrases, categories, symbols, and recordings from our servers.

Troubleshooting

Head-tracking cursor is jittery or inaccurate

Make sure you are in a well-lit environment and the TrueDepth camera has an unobstructed view of your face. Adjust sensitivity in Settings ▸ Head Tracking.

Phrases are not syncing to my Apple Watch

Check that both devices are online, then open the iPhone app and pull to refresh. If the issue persists, sign out and back in on both devices.

A saved recording or generated voice is not playing

Check that your device is not in silent mode, and that Prefer Saved Audio is enabled in Settings ▸ Speech ▸ Playback. Re-record or regenerate the phrase if the audio appears corrupted.

Listening Mode says the microphone isn’t available

Allow both Microphone and Speech Recognition in iOS Settings ▸ Speech Assistant AAC. Audio stays on your device — only transcribed text is used to suggest replies.

The app asks for camera permission but I only use touch

Camera access is only needed for head tracking. You can deny it in iOS Settings ▸ Speech Assistant AAC ▸ Camera and the app works fully with touch input.
